Killgerm Training — recently featured in the October edition of Airgun World — is running a Safe Use of Air Rifles for Bird Control course on Tuesday, 25 November in Portishead, Bristol. But act fast as spaces are limited.

This practical course covers bird recognition, licensing and legal restrictions, safe handling, and use of air rifles plus equipment setup and maintenance. You’ll receive hands-on coaching in ballistics and shooting technique, and learn how to organise a bird shoot and complete a risk assessment. All rifles and lunch are provided.

Course fee: £235. On successful completion you will receive a certificate verifying attendance and qualification.

  • Air rifles and the law
  • Legislation relating to target bird species and general licences
  • Safe use and handling of air rifles
  • Types and calibres of air rifles — strengths and weaknesses
  • General maintenance procedures
  • Air rifle ballistics
  • Shooting technique — stance, trigger control, moment of shot, follow-through
  • Organising a bird shoot and carrying out a risk assessment
